12. Texas Rangers (59-57) The Rangers are still hanging around in the AL Wild Card race, being aided by a four-game winning streak they are currently riding. A weekend sweep of the Rays came after they lost two of three to the Twins to start the week. This all comes too with Cole Hamels yet to get going in the AL, as he has a 5.93 ERA in two starts thus far for the Rangers. If he is able to get things going, they could sneak into the Wild Card as they have a top offense and a pitching staff coming around behind Yovani Gallardo.

11. Baltimore Orioles (60-56) Don’t look now but the Orioles are coming for a playoff spot. They got their homestand started off on the right foot, taking three in a row against the Athletics with a fourth one coming Monday. They will then host the Mets and Twins as they look to continue climbing up the standings. They will need to continue getting strong performances on the mound from the likes of Kevin Gausman and Ubaldo Jimenez as the starting rotation is the only thing really holding the Orioles back at the moment.

10. New York Mets (63-55) It was a rough weekend for the Mets who learned the hard way at the hands of the Pirates that they are not unbeatable at home. The Mets may have a 4.5 game lead over the Nationals still, but they are clearly a step below teams such as the Pirates, Cubs and Cardinals. They have a 7-20 record and -49 run differential against the other teams in the NL currently holding a playoff spot. They made solid additions at the trade deadline to their offense, but this is still a team that struggles to score, especially against upper tier teams. It is something they will need to improve upon not only to hold off the Nationals but make noise in the postseason.
