Heading into Week 20 of the MLB season, we are still seeing some changes in our MLB Power Rankings. Some teams we expected to be contenders are beginning to free fall down the standings, while there are some surprise teams moving up the rankings.

At the same time, we are also seeing some big moves at the MLB Trade Deadline not panning out, and it is hurting the team in the win-loss column; we’re looking at you Washington Nationals. Luckily for them though, the team they are chasing had a rough weekend and it was reflected in their standing in our MLB Power Rankings as well.

Without further ado, let’s get to our MLB Power Rankings. Where did your favorite team land? You’ll have to go through the slideshow and find out!

More from Empire Writes Back

30. Philadelphia Phillies (46-72) The Phillies are back to the spot they held in our rankings for many weeks as their strong second half has begun regressing to the mean. Ken Giles has been dominant since taking over the closer’s role, recording a save in seven straight appearances and striking out multiple batters in the last six. But, the Phillies could be saying goodbye to another face of the franchise, as it sounds like Chase Utley will be on the move sometime this week.

29. Oakland Athletics (51-68) The Athletics witnessed first hand this past week just how strong the AL East is, as they got swept by the Blue Jays and Orioles. Sonny Gray having his start pushed back again played a part in that, as he will take the mound on Monday to try and stop the six-game losing streak. The pitching staff was blasted on multiple occasions, but Chris Bassitt continued to pitch well despite the circumstances. Ike Davis was arguably the best performer on the mound, as the first baseman threw his second scoreless inning of the season on Sunday afternoon.

28. Miami Marlins (47-70) The Marlins had arguably their best moment of the second half Sunday when they avoided the sweep from the Cardinals and picked up a 6-4 win. Jose Fernandez was forced to the DL again with a biceps injury, as the only thing that generated any buzz for this losing team could be out for the season. He is confident that he will return, but a team essentially in the cellar is sure to be careful with their prized young pitcher. Giancarlo Stanton is also still recovering, albeit slower than hoped.
