  1. December 17, 2012 The Toronto Blue Jays trade for Travis d’ArnaudJohn BuckNoah Syndergaard and Wuilmer Becerra,  to the NY Mets for R.A. Dickey, Josh Thole and Mike Nickeas.

The jury is still out on this trade. So far the impact of d’Arnaud and Syndergaard is yet to be determined. Travis d’Arnaud, a former 1st round pick of the Philadelphia Phillies, has shown he has the ability to be a solid Major League hitter. The problem has been keeping him in the lineup. This season, he has played less than 30 games while spending time on the disabled list multiple times.

Noah Syndergaard finally arrived in Queens after much anticipation. He is showing flashes of his potential in his first season in Queens, despite a mediocre 6-6 record. He has an E.R.A. of 3.01 (as of August 12th) and has more strikeouts (106) than innings pitched.

It will take some time to see if these players reach their potentials to know what kind of impact trading a reining CY Young award winner in R.A. Dickey will have.

Simply trading one pitcher and receiving a pitcher in return plus a starter can have an enormous impact if they perform well. Dickey has pitched well in Toronto winning 14 games in each of first two seasons as a Blue Jay.
