  1. November 24, 2005: The Florida Marlins sent Delgado and $7 million to the New York Mets for Mike JacobsYusmeiro Petit and Grant Psomas.

Carlos Delgado came to the Mets after spending one season with the Florida Marlins. Previously, he had spent his entire career with the Toronto Blue Jays. It was in Toronto where he made his mark. He lead the A.L. in doubles with 57 in the 2000 season, and RBIs in the 2003 season with 145. He was also a three-time Silver Slugger award winner and had been selected as an All-Star twice.

Delgado had several successful seasons as the Mets’ first baseman, including his first season in New York when he hit 38 home runs and drove in 114 runs to help the Mets come in one game of winning the NL Pennant; he finished 12th in the vote for the N.L. M.V.P. In his four seasons in New York, he averaged 26 home runs and 85 RBIs. He was a solid veteran presence in the middle of their lineup.

Meanwhile Mike Jacobs hit less home runs in his entire seven-year career (100) than Delgado did in his 4 seasons with the Mets (104). Petit bounced around the league before settling in as a relief pitcher for the San Francisco Giants. His career record is under .500 (20-27) and a career E.R.A. of 4.67
