The New York Giants are heading into their first preseason game of the summer, as they will travel to Paul Brown Stadium to take on the Cincinnati Bengals. Before their game on Friday evening, the Giants will hold joint practices with the Bengals on Tuesday and Wednesday. It will be interesting to see how those practices go, as head coach Tom Coughlin has made it clear he will not tolerate brawling at these joint practices with the Bengals like what was seen between the Houston Texans and Washington Redskins over the weekend.

The practice setting between the Giants and Bengals should not get to that level, as Coughlin and Bengals’ head coach Marvin Lewis are both veterans and know what they want to see from the sessions. It will bring an added element and different look to practices that can become monotonous against the same players every day.

It will also give the Giants coaching staff a chance to see their players in a different settings, getting them into different situations than you can do when lining up against your own teammates. It should also open up more opportunities for players to prove themselves, which is something the Giants can certainly use with so many question marks on the roster.

With the first preseason game this week, we get to see first hand what some of those holes may be and how the Giants plan to fill them, as they released their first official depth chart of the summer. There were some surprises on the first released depth chart, as the Giants are compensating for injuries and performance thus far in camp.

But, as we all know, the depth chart is a very fluid situation; it can look drastically different by this time next week, let alone once the regular season comes around. Still, the first once does give some insight into what could be in the future, and raises some questions.
