In the trade for Troy Tulowitzki, the Rockies obtained former Mets shortstop Jose Reyes. This will be the second time this season Reyes is returning to his old stomping grounds, as the Blue Jays paid a visit there in mid-June. In those two games, Reyes went 1-for-9 at the plate, striking out twice and scoring one run.

Reyes is only 8-for-39 since joining the Rockies, as the hitters haven known as Coors Field has not helped him raise his stats much yet. Those numbers are sure to improve eventually though, as Reyes’ game is a perfect fit for the spacious Coors Field. His speed should enable him to rack up triples at a rapid pace. But, Reyes needs to get on track eventually if that is to happen; what better time than against his old team?

This time around, Reyes will have a much bigger impact. He will get on base at least once in every game, and be a menace on the basepaths stealing three bases as well. Reyes hasn’t been running much since joining the Rockies, but against his old team he will have some added adrenaline going and will showcase the talents that made it so tough for the Mets to let him go when he signed with the Miami Marlins in 2012; the Mets are still looking for a leadoff hitter to replace him.

The Mets have seen first hand plenty what Reyes can bring to the table, benefiting from it the first nine seasons of his career. Now they will have to contend against it, as Reyes will want to put on a performance in front of his former fans, some of which you can still see sporting his jersey when going to Citi Field.
