The New York Mets had a successful road trip overall going 4-2, but are coming back home to Citi Field with sour taste in their mouth, as they lost the last two games of the trip to the Tampa Bay Rays. They came up short in those last two games after sweeping the Miami Marlins with relative ease and taking the opening game of the series against the Rays.

While it was disappointing to lose the last two games of the trip in the fashion that they did, the Mets are still returning home as the leaders in the NL East, no small feat. They enter the week leading the Washington Nationals by 1.5 games, who trying to right the ship as they have a number of players returning from injury.

The Mets cannot worry about what the Nationals are doing though, as they need to take care of business themselves if they are to stay atop the division. They will look to do that on their homestand this week that will start with a four-game series against the Colorado Rockies. The Rockies helped the Mets this past weekend by taking two of three from the Nationals. The Mets will now try to do what the Nationals couldn’t and win a series against the visiting Rockies. Here are the pitching matchups for the game:

Game 1: Jon Niese (6-9, 3.51 ERA) vs. Jon Gray (0-0, 4.50 ERA)
Game 2: Matt Harvey (10-7, 2.76 ERA) vs. Chris Rusin (3-4, 4.66 ERA)
Game 3: Jacob deGrom (10-6, 2.13 ERA) vs. Jorge De La Rosa (7-4, 4.85 ERA)
Game 4: Noah Syndergaard (6-6, 3.01 ERA) vs. Eddie Butler (3-9, 5.50 ERA)

On paper, the Mets have the advantage in every game. The Rockies are not known for their pitching, but they always carry a huge offense along with them. Even with the trade of Troy Tulowitzki to the Toronto Blue Jays, they still have plenty of offense remaining that the Mets will have to deal with.

Will the Mets be able to contain that offense, or will their dominant staff shut down the high power Rockies? Check out our predictions to find out!
