6. Toronto Blue Jays (61-52) The Blue Jays are currently the hottest team in baseball, riding an eight-game winning streak. They have yet to lose a game that Troy Tulowitzki has started, going 11-0; the only loss with Tulowitzki on the roster came against the Royals when Tulowitzki pinch hit and walked. Their sweep of the Yankees in Yankee Stadium over the weekend should be more than enough to prove they are for real, as they went on the road and won not because of their offense, but on the back of their pitching staff. R.A. Dickey, David Price and Marco Estrada all pitched brilliantly as the Blue Jays continue their ascension up the standings.
5. Los Angeles Dodgers (62-49) The Dodgers trip through Pennsylvania didn’t go as well as they planned. They may have taken two of three from the Phillies, but it was more of a struggle than they could have expected as the Phillies touched up Zack Greinke. They were happy to come away with two wins from Citizen’s Bank Park though, because they got swept out of PNC Park by the Pirates. Not only did they lose all the games against the Pirates, they may have lost Howie Kendrick for an extended period of time as well, as he injured his hamstring in the series finale. With Justin Turner also sidelined, the Dodgers depth will be tested in the coming days.
4. Chicago Cubs (62-48) The Cubs are one of the hottest teams in baseball currently, winning four straight and nine of their last 10 games. They took a four-game series from the Giants to move into a Wild Card spot as the Cubs are really beginning to figure things out. Joe Maddon has made the tough decision to bench Starlin Castro as he has the eight best players on the field. Kyle Schwarber has found himself in the lineup everyday even with Miguel Montero back from the DL as Chris Coghlan has taken over at second base. Addison Russell has moved over to his natural spot at shortstop, which is why Castro is on the bench more often than not now. It has resulted in positives across the board for the Cubs who are playing great baseball and are in the thick of the playoff race.
