– Tanaka saves the day
On paper, the Yankees may only have the advantage in one pitching matchup in the three-game series, and that is on Sunday with their ace on the mound. Masahiro Tanaka hasn’t been as dominant this season, but he gives the Yankees their best chance to win.
This season, Tanaka is 8-4 with a 3.84 ERA, and 87 strikeouts in 93.2 innings. Keeping the ball in the park has been an issue for Tanaka this season, as he has allowed 16 homeruns. The Blue Jays’ offense is very capable of hitting the ball out of Yankee Stadium, which could lead to a rough outing for Tanaka.
In his last five starts, Tanaka has been mediocre, but against the Blue Jays, six innings and three runs allowed would be considered good.
Saturday could be a very important game for the Yankees if Dickey continues to pitch well on Friday night. With Price pitching on Saturday, Tanaka must give the Yankees a good outing on Sunday to possibly avoid a disastrous series.
