1.) Keith Hernandez

The easy choice for the greatest first baseman in Mets history is Keith Hernandez.

In June of 1983, the Mets were able to acquire Hernandez from the St. Louis Cardinals for Neil Allen and Rick Ownbey. In his first full season with the Mets, Hernandez made the All-Star team, as he batted .311 with 15 homeruns and 94 RBI.

In seven seasons with the Mets, Hernandez batted .297 with 80 homeruns and 468 RBI. He was a very good hitter, but was an even better fielder. With the Mets, Hernandez had five gold gloves, and he totaled 11 for his career.

Hernandez was part of the 1986 World Series team, which certainly helps Hernandez cement himself as No.1 on the greatest first basemen of all-time list for the Mets.

After his career, Hernandez went into the booth with SNY to be a color commentator for the Mets.

Hernandez is not only the Mets’ best first basemen of all-time, but he is also one of the greatest players in the history of the franchise.
