2.) Ed Kranepool
The longest tenured Mets’ first baseman was Ed Kranepool. Kranepool played 18 seasons in the majors, and all of them were with the Mets.
In 18 seasons, Kranepool batted .261 with 118 homeruns and 614 RBI. The numbers don’t jump off the page with Kranepool, but his long tenure with the Mets certainly makes him one of the best first baseman in Mets history.
1965 was the best year for Kranepool, as he made his first and only All-Star team. In the All-Star season, Kranepool batted .253 with 10 homeruns and 53 RBI. Kranepool hold many records for first basemen with the Mets, as his longevity with the team is a rare sight in today’s game.
Kranepool was part of the Mets’ World Series team in 1969, and will go down as “Steady Eddie” in Mets history.
