18. San Diego Padres (51-54) The Padres were looked at as many by the key to the trade deadline, having a number of cost control pitchers such as Tyson Ross and Andrew Cashner being dangled in addition to free agents to be Ian Kennedy and Justin Upton. As well, top notch closer Craig Kimbrel was on the market as the Padres looked to be attempting to right some of their wrongs from the offseason. Ultimately they were rather quiet, making one minor move for Mark Rzepczynski from the Indians to add to their bullpen for Abraham Almonte. The Padres front office thinks they can get back into the race; being 6.5 games behind, do you agree?

17. Chicago White Sox (51-54) The White Sox made a surprise surge recently in the second half, making the White Sox change their plans at the deadline. They looked like they were going to be sellers, but a seven game winning streak made turned that around. Instead they made minor moves, acquiring Justin Sellers from the Pirates, and moving Conor Gillaspie to the Angels. The White Sox could have used a corner outfielder, and were in the race for Yoenis Cespedes, but ultimately they lost out. Can the recent production of their lineup continue and push them towards the playoffs?

16. Arizona Diamondbacks (51-54) The Diamondbacks were quiet at the trade deadline, but it was not a lack of effort. They tried hard to pry Aroldis Chapman from the Reds, but were unsuccessful in their attempt as the Reds decided to hold onto their flame throwing closer. Even with the quiet trade deadline, the Diamondbacks are still an improved team in recent weeks with Zack Godley making his MLB debut and Patrick Corbin shaking the rust off from Tommy John surgery. They have helped stabilize what was an underachieving starting rotation. Will they be able to reach the ever elusive .500 record though this week?
