Mets Trade: Matt Harvey

Dodgers Trade: Yasiel Puig

If there is a trade the Mets could make that would outshine the BlueJays/Rockies trade, it’s this one. Both teams would be swapping two of the biggest names in baseball in an effort to improve an area of weakness. Both players have also not had the types of seasons they have had in the recent past, but they each have tons of potential to get back to that level of play.

Acquiring Puig would give Collins tons of flexibility. He would probably take over center field while Lagares goes to the bench to be used primarily as a defensive replacement or pinch runner. Puig, like Gomez, has the skill set to bat at the top or middle of the lineup. He also plays the game at an energy level similar to Reyes, which is something the Mets have lacked since he left.

The only problem with this trade would be giving up one of the most beloved players by fans. But the Mets have a ton of pitching talent in Jacob deGrom, Noah Syndergaard, Steven Matz and Zack Wheeler. They will eventually have to shell out big money to pay all of them, so they might as well invest some money into their offense instead of using all of it on pitching. Even without Harvey, the rotation is one of the best in the league, and Puig can help them on a daily basis as opposed to every fifth or sixth day.
