Mets trade: Zack Wheeler, Brandon Nimmo, Rafael Montero, Gabriel Ynoa

Rockies Trade: Carlos Gonzalez

The Rockies already traded away the face of the franchise in Troy Tulowitzki, and now its possible they move their hottest hitter in CarGo. Over the last 28 games, Gonzalez has batted .405 with 10 home runs. Seven of those home runs have come within the last seven games. He is the hottest hitter in all of baseball and it would require a lot more to get him than Gomez. He is also fairly expensive, being owed a total of $37 million through 2017.

If the Mets were to get Gonzalez, it would make for a crowded lefty lineup. He would join Granderson, Murphy, Lucas Duda, Kirk Nieuwenhuis, and Johnson. A lineup like this could be great if there are good platoon players to back them up. Michael Cuddyer, Wilmer Flores, Juan Uribe, and Juan Lagares are all players who can be rotated in and out of the lineup with the lefties.

To me, the trade makes sense for the Rockies because they are getting young pitching, which is something they desperately need. They also would be getting an outfielder who could suffice as a quality replacement for Gonzalez.  Nimmo would also have a hard time finding playing time with the Mets, given that they would have Gonzalez, Conforto, Granderson, and Lagares.
