Mets Trade: Juan Lagares, Zack Wheeler

Brewers Trade: Carlos Gomez

The Brewer’s hopes for a trip to the playoffs in 2015 ended a long time ago when they finished the first month of baseball with a 5-17 record. Despite the dreadful start, the Brewers do have plenty of big name players to offer as they look to build for the near future, and Carlos Gomez is as big a name they have.

Gomez hasn’t had the same type of success as his All-Star 2013-14 campaigns. In both of those seasons, he showcased a rare blend of power and speed with 47 home runs and 74 stolen bases in total. This season, he has under 10 home runs and stolen bases, which means it could be a good time to buy low on a guy and hope he can get back to his All-Star form in the second half of the season.

What I like about Gomez is that he can bat just about anywhere in the lineup. Right now, I would put him in the two hole, between lefties Curtis Granderson and Daniel Murphy. His contract is also very affordable for the frugal Mets’ front office. He is owed just $9 million in 2016, the final year of his contract.
