Sanchez is another player that is blocked at the major league level for the foreseeable future. With Brian McCann behind the plate for at least the next season, Sanchez will be relegated to the minor league team. If that is the case, why not dangle him as a trade piece and see what kind of offers come in.

Catcher is a premium position in baseball, so when you have a good one it is tough to pass up on him. Fortunately for the Yankees, they already have a good one at the major league level, so having Sanchez is kind of a luxury. There are still plenty of things that will tantalize teams about Sanchez despite his underwhelming numbers.

He still has nice raw power, already having 13 home runs this season as he has great combination of bat speed and strength in his swing. He is also a weapon behind the plate, as he has an above average throwing arm. If more teams begin building their teams like the Kansas City Royals with a small ball approach, having a catcher capable of gunning down runners is a must.

But, there are some concerns about Sanchez that may scare off teams. He has not developed as well as many had hoped when he was a consensus top-two catching prospect along with Jesus Montero, who the Yankees used to acquire Michael Pineda. Montero has fizzled out, as he didn’t put the necessary work into being a catcher. Some people are worried that Sanchez is too falling down that bad path, but unlike Montero, Sanchez possess at least one great quality as a catcher in his throwing arm.

But, that does not quell all of the concerns that people have about Sanchez’s work ethic and maturity. Despite being only 22-years old still, this is already his sixth season in the minor leagues. Despite having all that time to develop, he is not as far along as many people had expected him to be. Despite that, he is still one of the better catching prospects in baseball, and someone the Yankees could use as a trade chip in the next week to make their playoff push.
