The New York Yankees had a very successful first half of the season. To build upon that and take home yet another AL East crown, they may need to dip into the trade market to shore up a couple holes on the team.

The Yankees have been relatively lucky in regards to health, as the two players that went down for lengthy periods of time, Jacoby Ellsbury and Andrew Miller, had solid replacements in Brett Gardner and Dellin Betances. The loss of Masahiro Tanaka was unfortunate, but in the long run will probably help him and the team as his elbow is a ticking time bomb and getting rest at any time has to be looked at as a positive.

That healthy to continue is no sure thing though. In addition to Tanaka, Michael Pineda has been far from reliable in the healthy department during his Yankees tenure. He has already surpassed his Yankees career high for starts in a season, so relying on him to have a healthy second half is risky.

In addition to him, it is hard to imagine Mark Teixeira and Alex Rodriguez staying healthy and giving the Yankees 600 at-bats each. They have both had surprisingly strong first halves, and have been lynchpins in the middle of the Yankees order. It wouldn’t hurt them to add some insurance off the bench as everyone outside of Chris Young has left much to be desired.

The Yankees middle infield is also one of the worst in baseball, and they could use an upgrade there. The bullpen outside of Miller and Betances has also been weak, giving the Yankees three areas to target on the trade market.

While bench help and relief help would be looked at as small moves, the Yankees have also been rumored to be in the mix for Johnny Cueto. Adding to the starting rotation wouldn’t be a bad idea, as C.C. Sabathia has struggled mightily this season, and they have struggled to find consistent production from their rotation as a whole.

The Yankees cannot afford to stand idly as the Toronto Blue Jays and Baltimore Orioles potentially improve their roster. Because of that, the Yankees will do whatever it takes to upgrade their team and not fall behind in the race.

But, who would be on the move out of town if the Yankees are to acquire anyone at the deadline? Check out our list of five players the Yankees could move to add talent to their roster at the deadline next week.
