New York Mets: 5 Players That Could Be Traded At The Deadline

Seeing Colon on a list like this in May would have been shocking, but at this current time he hasn’t been giving the Mets much more than entertainment when he is at the plate. Colon has struggled in his last nine starts, going 3-4 with a 5.02 ERA after posting a 6-2 record with a 3.68 ERA prior to that.
That could make him difficult to move, but he would fit at the end of anyone’s rotation. He is an innings eater still, as he has gone at least six innings in every start but three this season. He also doesn’t hurt himself, as he has an elite K/BB ratio at 7.33. The problem is, he pitches to a lot of contact, allowing opponents to slash .278/.294/.442 on him this season, which would equate to an above average season for an everyday player.
MLB Power Rankings: Where Do The Mets Rank This Week?
It is hard to project what exactly the Mets could get in return for Colon, but getting a platoon outfielder wouldn’t seem out of the question. Someone the Mets could use as a super utility player in the outfield off the bench, such as Gerardo Parra, could be had. But, Colon alone would probably not net the Mets much in a return package. He would probably have to be paired with some type of prospects, probably lower leveled ones with some upside, for teams to bite on any package involving Colon.
While he has had some struggles as of late, Colon did fire seven shutout innings against the Cubs in his second to last start, so he does look to have something left in the tank. Also, the healthy of other players, such as Steven Matz, will have a huge affect on the Mets strategy at the trade deadline because if he is more injured than the Mets are giving on, Colon will be going nowhere.
