New York Mets: 5 Players That Could Be Traded At The Deadline
With the All-Star game now behind us, the second half of the MLB season is right around the corner. Quickly approaching is the trade deadline, which could be a huge day for the New York Mets.
The Mets are right in the thick of things, as they currently sit two games behind the Washington Nationals in the NL East and one game behind the Chicago Cubs in the race for the second Wild Card spot. The only thing truly holding them back from overtaking either team though is what has become a putrid offense.
Currently, the Mets rank 28th in the majors with 310 runs scored, last in batting average at .233, 26th in on base percentage at .298 and 29th in slugging with .363. It is no secret that the Mets need a bat, if not multiple ones, in their lineup as the numbers speak for themselves. The problem is, who can the Mets get to help bolster their lineup in the next two weeks leading up to the deadline to help get them over the hump?

Making a blockbuster trade at this point seems unlikely for the Mets, since many of the big names on the market look like they will be pitchers such as Johnny Cueto and potentially Cole Hamels, David Price and James Shields. With how loaded the Mets’ staff already is, they will assuredly not be targeting any starting pitchers to trade for in the next two weeks.
But, trading away pitching could be a route the Mets take. The old adage is that you can never have too much pitching, but that is something the Mets are challenging because at times it seems they do. Eventually they will have to start moving some of their arms as there just isn’t enough spots in the rotation to fit them all. What better time to start than now as the Mets are fighting for a playoff spot?
Injuries have derailed the Mets lineup this season, making projections of potential trades tough as we don’t even know who will be available to the Mets in two weeks, as guys like David Wright, Travis d’Arnaud and Steven Matz health are all up in the air currently. But, we will take a crack at it. Check out our list of five players that could be on the move from Queens in the next two weeks as the Mets will try and upgrade their lineup without breaking the bank in the way of prospects.
