9. Houston Astros (49-42) The Astros are in a rut. They are on a MLB worst six-game losing streak, and have lost eight of their last nine games. To make matters worse, the Angels have now overtaken them for the lead in the AL West as we head into the All-Star break. They need to evaluate their team over the break and figure out if there is anywhere they could a player to help get things back on track. Losing George Springer has proven to be a big loss, and something they are having trouble making up for as their offense has fallen way short during the losing streak.

8. New York Yankees (48-40) Some how, some way the Yankees are being overlooked. No one believes they will be in the playoff picture, yet as we head into the All-Star break, they lead the AL East by 3.5 games and look to be the most stable of any team in that division. They got Jacoby Ellsbury back from the DL to make their lineup even deeper, and Masahiro Tanaka fired a gem this week after putting together a couple rough starts in a row. If the Yankees could find some help in the middle infield, and maybe another starter to help take pressure off the bullpen, they will be in business.

7. Los Angeles Angels (48-40) The Angels will head into the All-Star break as the leaders of the AL West. This looked like a fantasy just a couple of weeks ago, but the Angels have really turned things on to catch and surpass the Astros. The Angels haven’t lost any of their last six series and are clicking on every cylinder. Mike Trout and Albert Pujols are anchoring the offense, while Hector Santiago and rookie Alex Heaney have been revelations on the mound. The Angels will have a decision to make after the All-Star break though, when Jered Weaver is expected to return from the DL. It is hard to imagine Heaney being taken out of the rotation, so it could be Matt Shoemaker as the odd man out.
