21. San Diego Padres (41-49) Things have not gone according to plan for the Padres as they continue to fall further and further out of the playoff race. They were able to snap their six-game losing streak to take the series against the Rangers, but there is still a rather large hill to climb. Don’t be surprised if the Padres begin shipping players out as the playoffs become less and less likely with every passing day. There are already rumors swirling that the Padres are gauging interest in James Shields. If they are willing to move him, it’s a good chance no one on the roster is save from being traded.

20. Boston Red Sox (42-47) The Red Sox are starting to come along a little bit, as they not are only five games under .500 and beginning to play better baseball. They were 10 games under just about two weeks ago, and have gotten things turned around as their pitching staff has gotten things on track. But, the leader of their staff, Clay Buchholz, has no timetable for his return after injury his elbow. With him on the shelf, it may push the Red Sox hand into making a deal for a front end starter, as it is really the last piece this team is missing currently to truly make a run and get back into it.

19. Chicago White Sox (41-45) The White Sox have won four consecutive series, as they look to finally be getting things on track. Chris Sale and Jeff Samardzija are anchoring the starting rotation, while Adam Eaton has put together solid performances at the top of the lineup as well. They find themselves only 5.5 games out of a Wild Card spot right now, and if they can get some more offensive firepower they could make a run. Right after the break the White Sox will play the Royals and Cardinals at home, which will determine if they are buyers or sellers at the deadline.
