24. Seattle Mariners (41-48) The Mariners just cannot get things going. They have alternated wins and losses all month and are just maddeningly consistently inconsistent. Robinson Cano has begun heating up at the plate, but it may be too little too late as the Angels have hit their stride to overtake the Astros. Taijuan Walker has also fallen on tough times this week, as his hot streak abruptly ended as he has given up 12 runs, 11 earned, over his last two starts in 11 innings. Hisashi Iwakuma made his return from the DL this week as well. His first start was rough but he tossed an eight inning gem to defeat the Angels in his second start.

23. Texas Rangers (42-46) The Rangers have fallen on tough times in July, as they managed only one win this week, only the second win of the month. Just two weeks ago there were talks about if the Rangers would seriously get into the Cole Hamels sweepstakes, but now it looks like they may be more of a seller than buyer at the deadline. Shawn Tolleson also blew his first save of the season as nothing is going the Rangers way recently. It will be fun watching Prince Fielder in the Home Run Derby this week though.

22. Atlanta Braves (42-47) Entering Wednesday the Braves had won six of seven games and gotten back to the .500 mark. Then the wheels fell off, as they lost the last five games of the week. Not only that, they also lost closer Jason Grilli for the season to a potentially career-ending injury as he tore his Achilles trying to cover first base. It is a big blow for the Braves as Grilli had regained the confidence he had with the Pirates two seasons ago, and he could have gotten the Braves a solid trade packages in return. Fellow veteran Jim Johnson will now take his place at the end of games.
