3. Kansas City Royals (46-33) It was a tough week on the field for the Royals, who went 2-5. The offense disappointed a bit, as they managed to score only 15 runs in seven games. But, they will be rewarded for their work during the season as the Royals will have four players, Salvador Perez, Alex Gordon, Alcides Escobar and Lorenzo Cain, all starting in Cincinnati for the All-Star game. The Royals will look to finish their strong first half with a good showing to end their homestand as they will host the Rays and Blue Jays this week.
2. Pittsburgh Pirates (47-34) The Pirates are rolling, winning seven of their last nine games and three straight series. While Charlie Morton has come back to earth after his hot start, Jeff Locke has gotten things going, throwing 13 innings and allowing only one run this week in his two starts. Morton, Locke and Antonio Bastardo are the only pitchers on the staff with ERAs over 4.00, which speaks volumes to how good this staff is. One thing to keep an eye on though is the healthy of Starling Marte, who tweaked a muscle on his side and was forced from Sunday’s game.
1. St. Louis Cardinals (53-28) The Cardinals showed that they are human, losing four games this past week. But the players stepping in and producing right away hasn’t changed, as it was youngster Thomas Pham this week after Xavier Scruggs last week. But, with all these youngsters coming up, it could mean the team is becoming fatigued and could start coming back to the pack. They have a big week coming up as well, as their divisional lead could really suffer as they will face off with the Cubs and Pirates in eight games this week, all on the road including a double-header Tuesday in Chicago.
