New York Mets News: The lineup will be getting a much needed boost, as catcher Travis d’Arnaud will be activated in time for Wednesday’s game against the Giants

After a horrible performance Tuesday night against the San Francisco Giants when they were no-hit, the New York Mets will be getting a boost as catcher Travis d’Arnaud will be activated off the disabled list. d’Arnaud has been sidelined since April 19th with a broken pinkie, as he was hit in the hand by an A.J. Ramos pitch. His return was a little delayed as he suffered a setback when he bruised his right hand on a rehab assignment.

The Mets are planning on having d’Arnaud activated in time to be in the starting lineup against the Giants on Wednesday night. It will be a welcome return, as the Mets offense has fallen off a cliff. Also, Kevin Plawecki hasn’t provided anywhere hear the production that d’Arnaud was when he was sidelined. In 34 games, Plawecki has managed to slash only .211/.256/.312 as his first taste of the major leagues was slightly disappointing, at least at the plate.

Plawecki was scratched from the lineup Tuesday though, as he was fighting spells of dizziness. He was also experiencing the same thing over the weekend against the Diamondbacks, when he was forced from the lineup twice, which the team was blaming on a virus.

Plawecki was originally supposed to get sent back down to the minor leagues when d’Arnaud returned, but he instead may be placed in the 15-day DL. That was part of the reason that the Mets sped up the process a little bit with d’Arnaud, as the uncertainty around Plawecki was going to leave them with a hole at catcher.

Getting d’Arnaud into the lineup though will be nice for the Mets, as the numbers Plawecki was providing are a far cry from what d’Arnaud was producing prior to going down with his injury. He will be returning to the lineup with a slash line of .317/.356/.537. It will be refreshing to see a player with a batting average starting with a three in the Mets lineup, something that has been a rare sight this season.

d’Arnaud will be the first of a few players returning to the Mets this week. In addition to him, Dilson Herrera is expected to make his return from a broken finger, further improving the lineup. Also, Bobby Parnell is set to rejoin the team Wednesday and be activated from the DL shortly after that.

All three will be welcomed back with open arms, as the Mets are trying to keep the ship afloat but all the injuries are making that difficult. Getting some of their regulars back should help get them back on track.
