The San Francisco 49ers’ defense has taken a few huge blows this offseason with players unexpectedly retiring. A once dominant defense will now have to begin to rebuild.
One player that would help rebuild the 49ers’ defense would be Oregon defensive end Arik Armstead. At Oregon, Armstead’s stats may not have overly impressed, but his size, strength, and speed are a rare thing.
Armstead is 6’7”, 292lbs, and has long arms, which makes him a great defensive end for the 3-4 defense. The 49ers probably didn’t thing that they would be need to rebuild their defense so soon, but they need to draft for the defensive side of the ball. Armstead isn’t polished yet, but the 49ers would be taking a very talented athlete with him.
The Houston Texans made a big decision to part ways with veteran wide receiver Andre Johnson this offseason. Even though he wasn’t as dominate as years past, Johnson was still very productive.
To replace Johnson, so far the Texans have signed Nate Washington and Cecil Shorts. While they are both solid wide receivers, neither are a great option to replace Johnson. In the draft the Texans should select a young talented wide receiver in Nelson Agholor.
Last season at USC, Agholor totaled 104 receptions, 1,313 receiving yards, and 12 touchdowns. Those are some fantastic numbers for Agholor, and he would be a great fit alongside DeAndre Hopkins in Houston. It’s hard to replace the face of the franchise, but Agholor would be a solid choice for the Texans
