16. Oakland Athletics (6-7) A 3-3 week for the Athletics isn’t horrible when the second team they faced in the week was the Royals. They were able to get one from them after taking two of three from the Mariners for a solid week. This offense is rolling more than anyone could have guessed, as as retreads such as Billy Butler and Ike Davis have started strong. They better be ready to start Week 3 though, as a meeting with the Los Angeles Angels carries some significance as both teams are struggling a bit in the early going but are expecting to be there at the end.

15. Houston Astros (6-6) The Astros do not have an offense that will blow you away, but their pitching staff is strong enough that it will keep them in a lot of games. That was on full display this past week, as Dallas Keuchel and Collin McHugh lead the way. They won’t be names recognized by many fans, but they are the foundation of what is a greatly improving Astros team. Jose Altuve continues to just hit the baseball, as he is currently on a nine-game hitting streak.

14. New York Yankees (6-6) The Yankees lost two of three to the Baltimore Orioles before sweeping the Tampa Bay Rays. In the process, we had a flashback to 2009 as Alex Rodriguez single handedly carried the Yankees in one of the wins over the Rays, hitting two home runs and getting the game-winning RBI on a single later in the game. Masahiro Tanaka also threw a gem against the Rays, as things are looking up in the Bronx, at least for one week.
