The New York Mets had a very successful series against the Miami Marlins in the win-loss column, picking up a four-game sweep. It is the second consecutive series that the Mets have swept, as they are now riding an eight-game winning streak. The Mets were able to get timely hitting and strong pitching throughout the series to get the sweep. Here are the game by game results from the extended weekend series against the Marlins.

Game 1: Mets: 7 Marlins: 5
W: Jerry Blevins (1-0) L: Mike Dunn (0-1) S: Jeurys Familia (4)

Game 2: Mets: 4 Marlins: 1
W: Bartolo Colon L: Brad Hand S: Jeurys Familia (5)

Game 3: Mets: 5 Marlins: 4
W: Jacob deGrom (2-1) L: Mat Latos (0-3) S: Alex Torres (1)

Game 4: Mets: 7 Marlins: 6
W: Matt Harvey (3-0) L: Tony Koehler (1-2) S: Jeurys Familia (6)

This was a hard fought series for the Mets, as they earned the sweep this time around. The Marlins didn’t back down, even though the Mets put up a three-plus run inning in three out of four games. That kind of stuff can demoralize a team, but the Marlins were gamers, but were unable to get over the hump for a victory.

While the wins are nice, it wasn’t all positive for the Mets in the series, as they suffered some more injuries that will put a damper on the series sweep a little bit, just like the David Wright injury put a little bit of a damper on the Philadelphia Phillies sweep.

Even with the injuries, it is hard to not come away pleased. The Mets are now sitting alone in first place in the NL East with a 10-3 record, one of only two teams in MLB that have reached double-digit victories, along with the Detroit Tigers.

With that, let’s take a look at some of the takeaways from the Mets’ series sweep of the Marlins at Citi Field.
