One of the better signings this offseason for the Jets was keeping one of their own, as they were able to re-sign middle linebacker David Harris. Harris was drawing interest from both the Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins, but decided he would be staying with the team that drafted him.
Harris has been a great player for the Jets, and a leader on their defense since they drafted him in the second-round of the 2007 NFL Draft. In eight seasons with the Jets, Harris has totaled 30 sacks, and 805 total tackles.
One of the most impressive things about Harris has been his durability. Harris has played and started in every game since the 2008 season, which was the only season that he missed a game. In the 3-4 defense, Harris has found himself as a great run-stopper, and has also grown a lot as a pass-defender over the course of his career.
Re-signing free agents don’t generally generate as much attention as when a team brings a new player in, but the loss of Harris would have been a crippling one for the Jets’ defense.
