Wright battled a shoulder injury throughout the 2014 season, and it visibly had an effect on him. His power numbers plummeted, and he just didn’t seem like the same guy. Thankfully he is looking healthy and like his old self during Spring Training, which is great news for him, the Mets and fantasy owners looking for value on their team.
Last season Wright played in 134 games, but it was an inefficient season, as the shoulder injury sapped all of his power, and not just in home runs. He had his career-low slugging percentage of .374 in 2014, which was coupled with a career-low on-base percentage as well.
People say to not take much stock in spring training, but for Wright, I think it is okay to take a peek and if these numbers are a sign of things to come, he is in for a huge bounce back season for the Mets. Already this spring, Wright has blasted four home runs, a number he didn’t reach until June 17th last season.

Right now in the world of fantasy baseball, Wright is the 16th ranked third baseman, which offers outstanding value. For a position without any real standouts for fantasy purposes, Wright offers great value as his current ADP on ESPN Fantasy Baseball is 124, meaning he is going much later than he should be. When Wright is healthy, he is easily a top-10 third base option, and with the dearth of big named options ahead of him he could sneak into the top 5-7 range.
Wright, when he is right as he has been during the spring, offers great versatility for fantasy purposes, as he will not hurt you in any category. He is entrenched in the three-hole of the Mets lineup, so you know the RBI and runs will be there, and at worst will give you double-digit home run and steal totals with a .280. Target Wright as he is a perfect bounce back option that will also benefit from more protection in a deeper lineup.
