The biggest signing for the Yankees last season was adding Jacoby Ellsbury from the rival Boston Red Sox. Ellsbury was signed to a large contract, and with that comes a lot of expectations and pressure, and he was essentially Cano’s replacement in the lineup.
In 2014, Ellsbury was able to stay relatively healthy, appearing in 149 games, which is pretty high for him. At the plate, Ellsbury totaled 16 homeruns, 70 RBI, 39 stolen bases, 71 runs scored, and batted .271.
For fantasy baseball purposes, Ellsbury brings the valuable ability to steal bases, and unlike most other 30+ steal players, he has some pop. Ellsbury is a little banged up with an oblique issue, but he is still the best Yankee hitter to target in fantasy baseball, and should be ready to go come the start of the season.
