With the 10th overall pick in the 1985 NFL Draft the Jets selected wide receiver Al Toon from the University of Wisconsin. Toon sadly had his career derailed by multiple concussions, as he was only able to play eight seasons in the NFL.
When on the field however, Toon was great. In his second season in the NFL, which was the only one that he didn’t miss a game in, Toon was able to eclipse the 1,000-yard mark. That would be the beginning of three straight Pro Bowl appearances by Toon.
In 1988, Toon was the NFL’s leader in receptions with 93 on the season. For his career, Toon finished with 6,605 yards and 31 touchdowns. If it wasn’t for all of the concussions, Toon could have been one of the greats, but it was still a great career that landed Toon in the Jets Ring of Honor.
