John Riggins

When you hear the name John Riggins you probably don’t think Jets, but before he went on to play for the Washington Redskins, Riggins was a first-round pick by the Jets. In his five seasons with the Jets, Riggins played in 61 games, running for 3,880 yards, and 25 touchdowns.

In 1975, Riggins would become the first Jet to run for more than 1,000 yards in a season. Sadly for the Jets, 1975 would be Riggins’ best and last season with the Jets. In nine seasons with the Redskins, Riggins would run for 7,472 yards with 79 touchdowns.

In 1992, he would be inducted in the NFL Hall of Fame after a great 14-year career with the Jets and Redskins. The Jets have missed on a lot of first-round picks, but they surely got it right with Riggins; it’s just sad they couldn’t keep him.
