Brooklyn Nets Trade Rumors: Roundup Of All Rumors Revolving Around Nets Prior To Deadline

The NBA Deadline is upon us, with about an hour left to go until all deals are to be sent to the NBA offices and become official. For the Brooklyn Nets, this is a day that can make or break their season, and could shape the future of the franchise from a luxury tax standpoint. They are currently involved in a number of potential deals, some bigger than others. Let’s take a look at a rundown of all the rumors surrounding the Nets currently.

Yesterday the Nets started popping up in rumors with Joe Johnson being asked about by the Detroit Pistons. Nothing looks imminent here, but there was a proposal on the table from the Pistons. They offered injured included point guard Brandon Jennings, Caron Butler and draft picks. Follow the link here for in depth coverage of those talks and the potential of Johnson being moved.

Another potential rumor to come across the grapevine last night involved Kevin Garnett. The Minnesota Timberwolves are interested in bringing back their former franchise icon to have him finish his career where it started. The framework of that deal would bring Thaddeus Young back to Brooklyn.

News today makes it seem like that deal is done, with Garnett just needing to waive his no-trade clause to make it official. With news coming out today that Garnett is not seeking a buyout, this could be the only destination for him to go to if he wishes to leave Brooklyn. With the current state of the Timberwolves, it would be strictly nostalgia for Garnett to want to return there this season.

This morning and afternoon, the Nets continued to keep busy. They have a potential deal in place with the Oklahoma City Thunder, once again involving Brook Lopez. The Nets have offered up Lopez and are asking for Reggie Jackson, Kendrick Perkins and Perry Jones. The Nets are just waiting on the Thunder to make a decision.

The two teams are also trying to get a third team involved to expand the deal. This is where you could see a team such as the Philadelphia 76ers, who have immense cap space, get involved to attempt to pick up extra draft picks down the road.

It would seem that trade is conducive to another one for the Nets, as they are also rumored to be aggressively shopping Jarrett Jack, with a goal of theirs to be to move him prior to the deadline today.

The Pistons once again have popped up as potential trade partners, as they are in need of a point guard with Jennings going down. There are no specifics about what would be exchanged in a deal for Jack, just that the Nets will do everything in their power to move him prior to today’s deadline. The Washington Wizards are also in the market potentially for a point guard, and he could end up there as well.

The Nets are being extremely active at the deadline this season, as they try and make a push for the postseason and relieve some of the luxury tax bill they will be forced to pay. All of these trades would accomplish both for the Nets, as adding a player with the skills of Young for Garnett is a major upgrade, while Jackson would solve a lot of problems the Nets have off the bench and in the backcourt. Losing Lopez would hurt, but he is a ticking time bomb with the injuries he has endured in recent seasons and is hard to count on consistently for health.
