Re-signedChris Youngfor 1 year and $2.5 million

Grade: B

Young is far removed from his better days with the Diamondbacks, but he does hold value for the role the Yankees plan on using him in. He is the fourth outfielder behindJacoby Ellsbury,Brett Gardner, and Carlos Beltran. Given Beltran’s age and past knee issues, Young will likely be placed in the lineup wheneverJoe Girardiwants to give Beltran a much needed day off. As a right-handed bat, he also presents the ability to platoon with lefties Brett Gardner and Jacoby Ellsbury. If Girardi does use him in a platoon role, he will have to bat higher than .149 against lefties like he did a year ago.
