Florida State Seminoles’ QB Jameis Winston has officially declared for the NFL Draft, and as mock drafts show, the Jets could very well see him sitting there when they select 6th overall. On the field Winston could be just as talented as Oregon Ducks’ QB Marcus Mariota, who will be the 1st overall pick, and out of range for the Jets.
Winston won the 2013 Heisman Trophy and the National Championship that same year with a great season. In 2013, Winston threw for 4,057 yards with 40 TD and 10 INT, and ran for 219 yards with four TD.
In 2014 however, Winston battled an ankle injury for much of the season, which clearly effected his stats. Winston’s totals suffered across the board, as he threw for 3,907 yards with 25 TD and 18 INT. He also ran the ball much less with just 65 yards on the season.
The one concern that will hurt Winston’s draft stock is his well-documented off the field issues that will be a risk for any team that takes him, including the Jets.
