Mike Waufle

Current Position: Defensive Line Coach St. Louis Rams

Waufle might not be a familiar name to fans, but for the Giants organization he is a very familiar name. He was actually the defensive line coach for the team from 2004-2009. He was the man who oversaw the dominance of the defensive line in their 2007 Super Bowl run.

Dominant defensive lines seem to be a trend for Waufle, as the Rams currently have an abundance of riches along their defensive line that he is putting to use. There are standout players all over the line, with Chris Long and Robert Quinn being bookends to Aaron Donald and Michael Brockers at defensive tackle.

That kind of talent could make any coach look good, but you have to know how to use it. After a slow start to the season in which they had only one sack in the first six games, the Rams turned things up after that, finishing with 40 sacks on the season.

While Waufle might not be near the top of the Giants list, he would bring a familiarity along with him that not many other candidates could bring. Waufle would fall into the same category as Spagnuolo, as the Giants are familiar with him and there wouldn’t be much of a transition period needed like when McAdoo overhauled the offensive system.
