On Wednesday, the New York Giants and Perry Fewell agreed to part ways, opening up a spot on their coaching staff at defensive coordinator. Under Fewell the Giants won a Super Bowl in 2011, but they were never able to reach that level since. Things reached a low in 2014, when the Giants had one of the worst defenses in the NFL, finishing last against the run and in the bottom four in total yardage allowed and points allowed per game.

With Fewell now out of the picture, the Giants defense is in line for an overhaul like the offense saw last offseason. The selection of the defensive coordinator will set the tone for the offseason, and could be an indication of how much of an overhaul the defense will endure.

Will the Giants go the route of an experienced coordinator, hoping their players from this season just get healthy and don’t go for a full overhaul? Will they go with a familiar name to keep the continuity on the coaching staff that Tom Coughlin aims to have every season? Or will they go with an up-and-comer like they did on the offensive side of the ball with Ben McAdoo?

We will have to wait a little while for the Giants to make a decision, as some candidates are still coaching in the postseason and will not be allowed to interview for jobs until after their respective teams are eliminated. But in the mean time, check out our list of 10 potential replacements to replace Fewell as the Giants defensive coordinator.
