Mike Holmgren
Holmgren is most likely the biggest surprise you will see on this list, but at the same time is the most logical. With Woody Johnson bringing Ron Wolf in as a consultant, the pieces could be put together for Holmgren to get some calls on his interest for the coaching job. Holmgren was last a part of the NFL from 2008-2010, when he was President of the Cleveland Browns.
He hasn’t coached since he was head man for the Seattle Seahawks from 1999-2008, but his name has surfaced multiple times this season in connection with other jobs. Earlier in the season Holmgren confirmed that he was visiting the Oakland Raiders, and did not rule out a return to coaching, which got the rumor mills spinning. They slowed down as the season wore on, but have begun picking up again as he reportedly expressed interest in the San Francisco 49ers vacancy after they split from Jim Harbaugh.
With Holmgren beginning to pop up in coaching searches, it wouldn’t hurt the Jets to contact Holmgren and try to bring him aboard. With Wolf on as a consultant, the Jets have as good a chance of anyone to lure Holmgren to their franchise. Holmgren will only come back to a situation he has confidence in, so if he is even mentioned along with the Jets in the same sentence, things are already beginning to turn around for Gang Green.
