Flores is the only in-house option that can improve on the performance by Mets’ shortstops in 2014. Flores was up-and-down in 2014 because he was unable to get consistent at-bats at the major league level. Once he did at the end of August and through September, he improved.

The last two months of the season he hit .266 in 169 at-bats with five home runs, 10 doubles and one triple. He knocked in 22 runs, and scored 23. It would be nice if he walked a little more, as he had only nine in that span of time, but he also doesn’t strikeout, as he did that only 13 times in August and September.

He would be considered an underwhelming option by many Mets fans, but he plays as he did at the end of the season it would be a vast improvement from the position at the plate. But he fits the profile of a younger player that could be around for multiple seasons.
