Knicks Post Game Recap vs. Brookyln Nets November 7th

110. 147. 99. 27. Final

The New York Knicks struggled once again Friday night, as they were blown out of the water by the Brooklyn Nets. It was a ragged game in the first half, as the referees constantly were blowing the whistle causing for a rough game to watch. The Knicks were never able to get into a flow, as the Nets lead just continued to grow and grow. The Knicks were down by double-digits the whole second half, and went down by as many as 22. This was the third straight loss for the Knicks, who have plenty of work still to do.

Matchup of the Game Recap:

Shane Larkin did not start, as Derek Fisher elected to have him come off the bench with Pablo Prigioni joining Jose Calderon on the sidelines. Even if he had, it is hard to imagine Deron Williams not taking this matchup.

Williams was outstanding for the Nets tonight, scoring 29 points on 10-15 shooting to go with six assists. He led an offensive onslaught the Knicks just had no answer for.

Player of the Game: Cleanthony Early

The Knicks’ rookie got some early minutes tonight, getting five minutes in the first half. He made his mark in the fourth quarter though, as Early was one of the only bright spots for the Knicks on what was an ugly performance. The game may have been out of hand, but that didn’t stop Early from giving it his all. Playing the entire fourth quarter, Early had a strong performance, scoring 12 points. Even though it came in garbage time, it was an impressive showing nonetheless, as he added three rebounds, one assist and one steal. He has earned himself more playing time next time out.

-Shooting Barrage

The Nets were en fuego from deep all night, and it buried the Knicks. They made the first five attempts of their night, and barely slowed down after that. They knocked down 14-24 on the night, equaling 58.3 percent, a driving force in the outcome of the game. Williams, Joe Johnson, Bojan Bogdanovic, Mirza Teletovic and Alan Anderson all made multiple three-pointers in the game, resulting in all 14 for the Nets.

-Melo Off Again

For the third consecutive game, Carmelo Anthony struggled mightily with his shot. Tonight he finished 5-20 for 19 points as he once again did not get it going. Not coincidentally, the Knicks have lost the last three games as Anthony has struggled to put the ball in the basket. Against the Washington Wizards and Detroit Pistons respectively Anthony shot 8-23 and 5-21. The Knicks will struggle to beat anyone with Anthony performing like this offensively.

-No Continuity On Floor

Credit needs to be given to the Nets, who played a little bit of bully ball to start the game to get the Knicks out of rhythm. Right from the start they went down low to Brook Lopez, who the Knicks had no answer for after Samuel Dalembert, Jason Smith and Cole Aldrich all got into foul trouble. The Knicks struggled all night defensively, as they allowed open jump shot after open jump shot because of poor rotations and no trust in their teammates. Rotations are the core of the Knicks problem, as they need to build trust amongst each other and play as they did against the Cleveland Cavaliers last week. It’s hard to beat anyone when you let them shoot 51.4 percent overall and 58.3 from deep.

Offensively, it is a work in progress. The Knicks are hesitating too much, thinking more than reacting on the offensive side of the ball. This makes this easy for the opponents, as things become stagnant and easy to defend. Tonight the Knicks shot 41.1 percent from the field, much of which needs to be attributed to garbage time when the game was already decided.

The Knicks will not have much time to rest on their laurels after this one, as they will be heading on a plane to Atlanta this evening. They will be taking on the Atlanta Hawks tomorrow night to finish up their four games in five nights stretch.
