The New York Knicks are targeting John Halas to join their front office. What would Halas bring to the table if he is hired?

As Ian Begley reported a few days ago, the New York Knicks are going after Magic Scouting Coordinator, John Halas. Scott Perry used to work for the Magic, and is looking to bolster the Knicks front office.

So far in their short careers in the Knicks front office, Perry and President, Steve Mills, have done an excellent job. Their jobs started with cleaning up after Phil Jackson, not an easy task at all.

Halas joined the Magic as a Special Assistant to the General Manager, back in 2012. He had a brief minor league playing career, and coached at Northfield Mount Herman, and Amhearst College, before joining the NBA.

Halas wasted no time as special assistant, getting promoted to scouting coordinator in a years time.

Obviously, one of Halas’ biggest recruiting venture was targeting Jonathan Isaac. Halas’ was a central figure in deciding on the big man from the Bronx. The detail that Halas went into before deciding on Isaac is what I want to highlight.

As Tallahassee is very close to Orlando, scouting Isaac was something that Halas’ and his scouting team could carry out easily. The depth of the process is staggering.

The Orlando Sentinel divulged the work that Halas did during his recruiting trips to Florida State.

Per the article, Halas and his team were beyond diligent in understanding who Jonathan Isaac is. They interviewed tutors for the basketball team, the sports information director, trainers, if someone had any affiliation with the program at all, Halas was going to speak with them,

dark. Next. Irving and Butler to NY?

Halas was eventually let go, during his time recruiting Isaac, but that work ethic, to get an understanding of the athlete, speaks volumes. The team invests millions of dollars to a teenager, going above and beyond in recruiting efforts is exactly what’s supposed to happen

Hearing this, make me want this Halas even more. If he can put forth that kind of effort for the Magic, who knows what he can do for the Knicks, if this acquisition occurs.
