New York Mets’ fans have been waiting for the promotion of top prospect Amed Rosario for months now. However, when fans look at Triple-A Las Vegas’ roster, there is another blue-chip prospect ready for the big leagues.

For months New York Mets fans have been clamoring for the organization’s top prospect Amed Rosario to be called up to the majors.

The cries for Rosario have only continued to grow as the team falls further out of playoff contention and the team’s shortstop play has been plagued by lackluster offense and poor defense.

Rosario has made a strong case in Triple-A, hitting .330 with 53 RBI and swiping 17 bases. However, there’s another top prospect in Las Vegas who also deserves a promotion for the second half of 2017.

More from New York Mets

With the Mets turning their focus to the 2018 season, they have to make a decision on first baseman Lucas Duda.

Duda is a free agent at the end of the season. If Duda is not in the team’s long-term plans, then New York should call up the top first base prospect in baseball, Dominic Smith.

While Rosario has gotten all of the attention for his 2017 season, Smith has also put up impressive numbers in Las Vegas.

This season, Smith is hitting .332 with 12 HRs, 60 RBI, and 26 doubles. While the power numbers could be better, Smith is still projected to be a player who has the potential to hit over 20 home runs a season.

New York needs to get both Rosario and Smith major league reps. Big league at-bats this season will be crucial in their development, especially if the Mets have plans for them to be everyday players in 2018.

Smith would be a nice addition to the lineup as he hits for a high average and has a good approach at the plate. Like Rosario, Smith’s also a very good defensive player for his position.

Next: Why Has Amed Rosario Not Been Called Up Yet?

With the prospect of Lucas Duda being on the block at the trade deadline and the season lost, it simply makes sense to promote both Amed Rosario and Dominic Smith, getting them ready to contribute in 2018 and beyond.
