New York Yankees: Aaron Judge shouldn’t enter Home Run Derby
New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge could enter this year’s Home Run Derby. It would be great for television ratings, but could ruin the rising star.
New York Yankees stud outfielder Aaron Judge is one of the tope homerun hitters in the league, but he shouldn’t even consider the Home Run Derby.
Judge is swinging the bat better than he ever has, and the derby could ruin it.
Last year, Judge had a much more upright swing. He didn’t bend his knees, and he swung for pure power. It caused him to strike out a lot, but this year he is much different.
Judge has a much lower center of gravity when he swings. He starts in an open stance, and closes up during the pitcher’s delivery. This allows him to reach the outside pitches, and mash anything middle-in.
If he gets brought into the derby, I’m afraid he might lose all of his mechanics.
When a player enters the Home Run Derby, they look for inside pitches to destroy. Yes, the fans love it, but it ruins hitters.
Look at Bobby Abreu. The guy was raking in 2005 before the Home Run Derby, and then after winning it, he had a career drop off. Not a week, month, or season, a career drop off.

I would hate to see the same thing happen to Judge.
He is young, and he has the world in front of him. His swing is animalistic, and his plate coverage is superb. If he loses those traits, his career could see a quick decline.
Judge is mashing the ball this season, and there is no reason to put it in jeopardy. He is the future of the New York Yankees, and he has to know that.
Hopefully he doesn’t partake in the Home Run Derby because I’d hate for him to be its latest victim.
