New York Yankees first baseman Chris Carter notched his second homerun of the season against the Royals. Can he finally find his swing?

New York Yankees signed Chris Carter to be a homerun threat, but the former Brewer has been anything but that so far this season.

Carter led the majors last season with 41 long balls, but has only hit two thus far. His second came last night against the Royals, and fans are hoping he finds a way to hit a hot streak.

Yankees announcer Ken Singleton noted last night that Carter is a very streaky player, and this could be the homerun that gets him going.

Carter’s homerun last night showed why he was such a prominent threat last season.

He hit an outside slider from Jason Hammel out of straightaway center field at Kauffman Stadium. Carter clearly has natural power, but he seemingly shows minimal effort at the plate.

It’s understandable to be complacent the year after a player leads the MLB in homers, but this is New York. This is eat or be eaten territory.

Carter has played in very small markets throughout his career. He started in Oakland, went to Houston, and as I noted was with the Brewers last year.

He never played in such a big market, and it could be getting to his head. However, every time he swings, it looks like he doesn’t even want to be at the plate.

Look I never had raw talent on the diamond. That’s why I’m writing about baseball and not playing it, but all I’m saying is, show some damn effort.

New York Yankees baseball is moving forward with or without Carter, but it would be nice to have him get hot.

Here’s to hoping last night’s homerun is the first in a potential hot streak for the first baseman.
