With the 23rd pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, the New York Giants selected tight end Evan Engram. What did fans on Twitter think about the pick?

Towards the end of a wild first round, the New York Giants made a surprise selection when they called Evan Engram’s name.

Just prior to the Giants drafting, players like O.J. Howard and Garett Bolles were selected. Both of these players were certainly targets of the Giants, but unfortunately, the Giants missed out.

While Engram is listed as a tight end, he is similar to Brandon Marshall in size. At Ole Miss, Engram was a terror to try and guard, but his blocking skills were lacking. For the Giants, adding Engram will give Eli Manning yet another weapon, but likely won’t help them in the running game.

This was certainly a surprising pick for the Giants, and it caused quite the stir on Twitter. Here’s what fans had to say.

For the Giants, drafting a tight end like Howard would have been much better for them. While Engram might help in the passing offense, he is a one-dimensional tight end as of now.

With a player like Reuben Foster still on the board, it feels like the Giants reached on Engram a bit. It will be interesting to see how the Giants attack the second day of the draft, as Engram is a hybrid player that doesn’t exactly fill a need.

Engram might be a very valuable weapon for the Giants, but they had more pressing needs than a hybrid tight end with their first choice in the NFL Draft. Overall, the reaction was pretty mixed on Engram with a slight edge to those in favor of the move. With the season a few months away, time will tell if the pick was a good one.
