The New York Rangers were able to win Game 6 on Saturday night to eliminate the Montreal Canadiens from the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

152. Final. 3. 95. 1

The New York Rangers didn’t get off to a great start in the first period at home, as the Canadiens struck first. A goal by Alexei Emelin of the Canadiens gave them the early lead in the elimination game.

Also in the first period, we saw Jimmy Vesey and Max Pacioretty drop the gloves after some physical play. Overall, the Canadiens dominated play in the first period, as they were able to total 11 shots on goal compared to just six for the Rangers.

While the Canadiens won the first period, the Rangers answered back in a big way in the second period. On the power play, the Rangers were able to score a much-needed goal, as Mats Zuccarello scored his second goal of playoffs.

About 10 minutes later with the game still tied, Zuccarello broke that tie with his second goal of the game. After barely generating any offense in the first period, the Rangers were able to total double the amount of shots that they did in the first period.

In the third period, the Rangers were able to hold on to their 2-1 lead throughout the period. The Canadiens certainly had some good chances, but Henrik Lundqvist was able to stand on is head multiple times to ensure a win.

With an empty net, Derek Stepan was able to seal the deal for the Rangers with a goal on a deep lob shot. After a great Game 6, the Rangers have advanced into the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
