The New York Knicks lost their NBA Draft Lottery tiebreaker to the Minnesota Timberwolves and will start in the seventh spot in the draft order.

If it wasn’t for bad luck, the New York Knicks wouldn’t have any luck at all. While most of the damage has been self-inflicted, the Knicks have not had many things break in their favor. Despite not qualifying for the postseason, the Knicks find themselves talked about on an almost daily basis.

The Knicks season ended last week with a victory over the Philadelphia 76ers. That would normally be the end of talking about a team not qualifying for the postseason, but this is the Knicks.

President Phil Jackson couldn’t help himself from taking another shot at Carmelo Anthony in his exit meeting. That prompted the National Basketball Players Association to speak up for Anthony. Players on the team are getting fed up with Jackson. His insistence on using the triangle offense and his treatment of Anthony has rubbed players the wrong way.

Kristaps Porzingis skipped his exit meeting, as he is unhappy with the dysfunction surrounding the team. Players are openly boycotting the triangle offense. Kurt Rambis is in the running along with Jackson for the least popular person in the organization. Not to mention the new Anthony drama off the court.

The bad news just keeps piling on for the Knicks as well. For whatever reason, it took being eliminated from the playoffs for the Knicks to begin winning games. The Knicks finished the season 4-5 despite losses being beneficial.

Those victories have come back to bite the Knicks. With their victory in the season finale against the 76ers, the Knicks fell into a tie in the standings with the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Knicks and Timberwolves both finished 31-51, tying for the sixth-worst record in the NBA.

Those victories resulted in another loss for the Knicks. The Knicks would lose the lottery ball tiebreaker to the Timberwolves, putting them in the seventh spot heading into the lottery. Minnesota will have the sixth.

That was not the only tiebreaker that was settled in regards to the draft order. The Portland Trail Blazers won theirs with the Chicago Bulls and will pick 15th; the Bulls will be 16th. The Milwaukee Bucks and Indiana Pacers will be picking 17th and 18th respectively.

The Trail Blazers would lose their second tiebreaker to the Atlanta Hawks. The Hawks will pick 19th with Portland 20th. The final tiebreaker was between the Toronto Raptors, Utah Jazz, Orlando Magic, and Blazers once again. The Raptors will be 23rd, with the Jazz, Magic and Blazers picking 24th, 25th, and 26th.
