Pro Football Focus recently released their most recent NFL Mock Draft. Who did they have the New York Jets selecting?

The New York Jets are going into a rebuild it looks like, which makes the 2017 NFL Draft an important one for them.

With a need at the quarterback position, many have speculated what the Jets will do to try and fix what has been a decade-long problem. With a few free agents still available, the Jets might attempt to sign a veteran with Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg still on the roster.

Depending on how the Jets value Petty and Hackenberg will dictate how they attack the NFL Draft. As it currently stands, the Jets have the sixth overall pick. However, Steve Palazzolo of Pro Football Focus recently had the Jets doing something shocking in his mock draft.

In Palazzolo’s mock draft, he had the Jets trading with the San Francisco 49ers to acquire the second overall pick. With that pick, the Jets then selected quarterback Mitch Trubisky from North Carolina. Here’s what Palazzolo had to say about the pick.

"The Jets are sorting through a number of unexciting free-agent bridge quarterbacks, but they change that by making the move to get Mitchell Trubisky. The one-year starter was impressive at North Carolina, showing the presence to maneuver the pocket and the arm to deliver the ball outside the numbers with velocity. Trubisky also has excellent short-area accuracy, and his grade on third downs ranked third in the nation a year ago."

Trading up is certainly an interesting move for the Jets in the mock draft. This offseason, Mike Maccagnan said that the Jets were looking to move back in the draft to acquire more picks.

Due to the Jets not having a certain player at the quarterback position, they should certainly consider using their first round pick on a quarterback if they believe he can be a franchise player. It is certainly an outside of the box idea for the Jets, but it would be well worth it if Trubisky is believed to be a franchise quarterback.
