The New York Jets have been purging their roster this offseason. They have put a plan in place and begun executing it as they want to rebuild the roster in a youth movement. The veteran push they began prior to the 2015 season has not panned out and they are now changing course.

Part of the change is moving on from veteran players. Releasing veterans can open up playing time for younger players and give the Jets more salary cap. One of the casualties of those moves was wide receiver, Brandon Marshall.

Marshall and the Jets decided to part ways after some discussions. Marshall asked for his release from the team and wishes to play for a contender. The Jets are not near being contenders and complied with Marshall’s wishes. With the move, the Jets will also save $7.5 million, money they can better allocate throughout the roster.

The 33-year old veteran is now on the free agent market looking for a contending team to join. There are plenty of teams that were competitive last season and in recent history that could use a player of Marshall’s caliber. It would not be surprising to see Marshall take lesser money to have a chance at winning a Super Bowl, which could expand his market.
