Baseball season is right around the corner and newly signed Chris Carter can’t wait to start with the New York Yankees.

It was a long offseason for New York Yankees first baseman Chris Carter. As a free agent this offseason, Carter was without a team in February. As a member of the Milwaukee Brewers last season, Carter will be entering his first season as a member of the Bronx Bombers.

One of the surprising things of the offseason was seeing Carter struggle to find a suitor this offseason. With the Brewers last season, Carter was one of the best power hitters in baseball. He was able to total 41 home runs and 94 RBIs but didn’t sign with a team during the early winter months.

Not knowing where he was playing was certainly something that began to worry Carter

"“Definitely started to get antsy after Feb. 1 and not sure of what is going on,’’ Carter said to George A King III of the New York Post. “It was certainly tough waiting until late in the offseason.’’"

The signing of Carter is a good one for the Yankees. They were seeking a power hitter that would be able to help balance their lineup from the right side. Carter will certainly be able to do that for the Yankees.

Even though Carter is a great power hitter, he does have limitations at the plate. Carter won’t provide the Yankees with a hitter that will have a high batting average. Also, Carter is prone to striking out.

With Greg Bird back from shoulder surgery, he and Carter will likely be the platoon at first base for the Yankees. Bird was impressive as a rookie filling in for the injured Mark Teixeira, but it is good to have a backup plan. In addition to playing first, Carter will likely see some time at designated hitter to give Matt Holliday some rest.

Like Carter, we all can’t wait for the start of baseball season.
